The Fire Within- A Mini Review

March 11, 2009

Joely always gives her readers story, delightfully poetic writing (not the same thing as ‘Story’, I’ll have you know), and impossibly romantic themes that both tears your heart to shreds and pieces them back together all before ‘The End’.

The Fire Within, by Joely Sue Burkhart, is no exception. It made my heart sing, my pulse race and I can’t count the number of times my eyes teared up.

Eleni decides to take matters into her own hands to escape her brother Darius, who has the ability to hurt her both in the physical world as well as her dreams. Under the guise of tactical planning, she infiltrates a caravan and is sold to Zahak saif’Cobra, the only man she thinks can save her from her brother, only he is honor bound to deliver her to his own. Their attraction sparks and sizzles on the page even from their first meeting and it only gets more and more difficult as their passions refuse to be caged by either honor or fear.

I have a soft spot for Malum, a side character, but Zahak is with out a doubt my new favorite hero of Joely’s books (only because I technically consider Gregar and anti-hero…and come on, the cover art makes him look drool-worthy). Eleni is not easily ignored either, but then again none of Joely’s heroines are.Β  She makes it extremely hard to choose favorites, but there you have it. *g*

Keldar is a harsh land, and utterly fascinating in it’s devastation. I cannot wait for her next book in this world.

Joely has an excerpt up on her site, and if you like what you see I’d suggest heading over to Drollerie and adding it to your virtual shopping cart. I read it in one sitting. πŸ˜‰

You totally made my day! Thanks for the wonderful words–I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I have a soft spot for Zahak too. I hope Road gets a similar smoldering cover starring our favorite anti-hero, Gregar! (That’s what I asked for, at least.)

Joely- My pleasure; it made my day reading it. *g* I hope you get your Gregar-cover wish; although I’ll need to find a way to keep all the drool off my keyboard!!

Bethanie- I applaud your fantastic taste in books. πŸ˜€
