(Part of Joely’s 101 Ways to Love Your Characters)

Aquarius

January 21st-February 19th

*”I Know.”

**”Hang loose, hang free, hang out, hang ups.”

***”In Spring when woods are getting green, I’ll try and tell you what I mean.
In days when summers are long, perhaps you’ll understand the song.”
– Lewis Carroll

Element

Air. Electrically charged and unpredictable. Remember the tornado that carried Dorothy to Oz? It’s a bit like that.

Polarity

Masculine. Think Lewis Carroll or Ronald Reagan. Female reference: Eva Braun

Quality

Fixed. It’s like trying to argue with said Tornado. Whether or not you want to go to OZ is irrelevant, you’re going so you might as well pack them shiny red heels. At the very least, you’ll be fashionable.

Symbol

The Water Bearer.  Pours out predictions, solutions and assumptions. Maybe we should change his name to Flood Bearer.

Ruling Planet

Uranus, god of abrupt change and Saturn, god of repression and the status quo.

Governing Anatomy

The Shins. Probably gets kicked in them a lot for said assumption-bearing.

Preferred Allies

Aries, Gemini, Libra, Sagittarius

Polar Opposite- Suggested love interest?

Leo

Best Adversaries

Cancer, Capricorn, Pisces, Virgo

Chief Need/Want

Innovation

Fatal Flaw

Eccentricity.

Positive Traits

Friendly, Humanitarian, honest, loyal, original, inventive, independent, and intellectual.

Negative Traits

Contrary, perverse, unpredictable, unemotional and detached.

Cc101-The Aquarius

(Claudia and Montague are from my 2008 NaNo-Skin Deep. This is my work, please do not take it for your own. Rights Reserved and all that good stuff.)

“How else am I to find the answers I seek?” Claudia replied, glad to find that her voice neither cracked nor lowered nor was small. It was level, with the slight hint of amusement. She almost thought to be proud of herself. If she was not so very very afraid. She put her hands behind her back, fearing to look at them, fearing to see that they might actually be shaking like she thought they were.

It certainly felt as though they were anyway. That did not mean she wanted to prove that theory, that she wanted to see them shake for herself, or have Mr. Montague see for that matter. No, certainly not that. Anything but that.

Montague smirked, still not looking at her. “You could ask.” He said, as if having a conversation about the weather instead of the secrets of her life. It chilled her and irritated her all at the same time.

Claudia laughed nervously. “I think not, you barely knew my name after all.” She continued to rub her arm unconsciously as though she were suddenly very cold. “What could you possibly know about my death or my life for that matter?”

His smile turned humorless then and he closed his eyes. “Perhaps I was merely being polite.”

Claudia frowned and her brow rose as she peered at him. “Were you?”

He shook his head and continued to shift the sand with his cane. “No.”

Claudia crossed her arms and huffed. “For what purpose do you have to delay me, Mr. Montague?”

He opened his eyes then but still did not meet her gaze. “Would you not try to delay the inevitable as well?”

Claudia felt that overwhelming sense of fear again and she subconsciously took a few steps back.“I don not think I understand a word you are saying.”

He chuckled. “I do not suppose you would want to life forever then, Ms. Delacroix?” His laughter stopped abruptly as he turned his gaze on her, and the intensity of it was enough to steel her in place. Her feet refused to move, no matter how she willed them to. “I would want to live forever, you know.”

Claudia was getting a might bit impatient now and more than a little terrified. “Would you kindly speak in plain?” She asked in a small voice, and swallowed against it. Trying to steel herself, to gain courage somehow. There was nothing to be afraid of. She was just being silly was she not? That is all there was to it, right?

Right?

His eyes seemed to smolder somehow. “It has been so very long since someone died in Talako, Claudia.”

In practice

Cisco Montague was the main antagonist of my 2008  NaNo-“Skin Deep”. I still haven’t quite figured him out. He speaks to me in riddles, quite like he does with Claudia here. There is, funny enough another Aquarius in the same novel, her name is Abigail and she’s…well, a Zombie.

In real life, I had this mad crush on an Aquarius in high school, and even though I know he never liked Astrology much, he is the perfect example of the Sign. With a huge emphasis on it’s eccentric and unpredictable nature.

Any Questions? Comments? Want to put me in my place? Notice any Aquarian traits in your own Characters?  Have at people, floors all yours.

* Motto of the Aquarius

** Title of a Song, taken from Born on a Rotten Day by Hazel Dixon-Cooper

** Wish I could take credit for this, but Linda Goodman’s excellent book on Sun Signs was the first to associated Alice in Wonderland quotes with the Zodiac. I picked the ones I liked the most of her selection.

Yeah. I’m definitely an Aquarius. Everything I’ve ever read about my sign is freakishly spot-on. *sigh* So much for being an original!

Gutterball- 😉 I don’t know about that. From what I’ve read of your freebie e-book and the few posts I’ve seen on your blog I’d say you’re pretty original.

Oh, dear. You’re not supposed to actually read my blather. *sheepish*

Heheh. Glad you did, though. I like being considered an original. Woot!

Gutterball- *g* Would you mind terribly if I added your blog to my blogroll? I rather like your ‘blather’.

Mind? Absolutely not! Do you mind if I return the favor?
